This Royal Mail issue celebrates the 40th anniversary of the TV sitcom Blackadder.
The set of eight stamps feature stars of the show, including Hugh Laurie, Tony Robinson, Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Tim McInnerny, Brian Blessed, Miranda Richardson and Patsy Byrne, shown as their characters throughout the four series. The episodes featured are: Blackadder the Third Episode 3 - Nob & Nobility (2nd class); Episode 6 - Duel & Duality (2nd class); Blackadder Goes Forth Episode 6 - Goodbyeee (1st class, x2 stamps); The Black Adder Episode 2 - Born To Be King (£2); Episode 3 - The Archbishop (£2); Blackadder II Episode 1 - Bells (£2.20) and Episode 4 - Money (£2.20).
The Gold 500 cover image is framed by a 22ct gold-blocked border. The cover bears a Wilton, Salisbury handstamp for Wilton House, which featured in the closing titles of Blackadder II. Numbered limited edition of 500.
