The commemorative miniature sheet celebrates the legacy of Prince Albert, Prince Consort. Four stamps - two 1st class NVI and two £1.55 - depict four buildings - three of which he was instrumenal in bringing to existence - Model Lodge, Kennington, Balmoral Castle and the Crystal Palace (shown at its permanent location at Sydenham) and one - The Royal Albert Hall - dedicated to his memory. The sheet selvedge depicts the Prince in his prime.
The BLCS 5000 cover mounts the sheet against a contemporary image of the opening ceremony of the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park on 1 May 1851 and carries a pictorial Balmoral, Ballater handstamp for the castle where Victoria and Albert relaxed away from the public gaze.
