The British Isles has a unique and colourful heritage of folk customs, many of them dating back to the Middle Ages and even pre-Christian times. They are often connected with seasonal celebrations, crop fertility ceremonies, competitions or just plain entertainment.
The eight customs celebrated in this issue feature some of the more colourful customs, both ancient and more modern on pairs of 2nd class, 1st class, £1.55 and £1.60 commemoratives.
The Gold 500 cover features the Derry Halloween Party - the world's biggest - with an image of one of the fearsome figures from the parade with a 22ct gold-blocked frame. A Derry, Enniskillen pictorial handstamp completes the cover. Numbered limited edition of 500.
