The Royal Air Force came into existence on 1 April 1918 when the aviation branches of the Royal Navy and the British Army were merged to form an independent military force. The growing role of airpower in warfare, particularly in the Great War was the chief inspiration for this move.
The RAF Centenary Commemorative Miniature Sheet features the world famous RAF Red Arrows Aerobatic Display team in action on a pair of 1st class NVI and a pair of £1.40. The stamps depict four Red Arrows manoeuvres: Flypast, Swan, Synchro and Python. The sheet selvedge shows part of the familiar RAF red, white and blue roundel.
Our Gold 500 cover complements the miniature sheet with an image of the Synchro manoeuvre framed by a 22ct gold-blocked design and an additional stamp from the 2008 Air Displays PO Label Sheet. The cover bears a pictorial Farnborough handstamp for the world-famous Air Show where the Red Arrows have performed many times.
Produced in a numbered limited edition of 500.
