This issue in the Royal Mail Heritage series features the transport of mail by sea with six commemorative stamps depicting historic mail-carrying vessels: Packet Ship 'Antelope' 1780; 'SS Great Western' 1838; 'SS Britannia' 1887; 'HMS Olympic' 1911; 'RMS Queen Mary' 1936 and 'RMS St Helena' 1990.
This BLCS 5000 cover features the doyenne of transatlantic Royal Mail liners, 'RMS Queen Mary' launched in 1936. The cover depicts her cleaving her way through the Atlantic breakers and bears a Southampton handstamp from where she commenced countless transatlantic voyages.
