Royal Mail's first issue of 2017, Ancient Britain, shows how people lived in historic times. The stamps, in se-tenant pairs, show famous iconic sites and some of the most exceptional artefacts found across the UK. Overlay illustrations on the stamps show how people lived, worked and used the objects.
The stamps give a timeline across thousands of years of history, form a glimpse of Stone Age ritual 11,000 years ago, through the Bronze Age and into the Iron Age of some 300 BC.
This cover focuses on the Bronze Age and a specially designed pictorial Skara Brae, Stromness handstamp cancels the stamps. Skara Brae Village features on one of the first class stamps.
