The first Royal Mail stamps went on sale in 1966. To mark that innovation a design a competition for schoolchildren was launched on the TV programme 'Blue Peter'. Over 5,000 entries were received and a team of eight professional stamp designers chose two designs by Tasveer Shemza (of King Wenceslas) and James Berry (Snowman) as first choice.
A brilliant Benham 100 limited edition cover celebrates this anniversary. It carries five designs from past Christmases, including James Berry's 1/6 Snowman from 1966, together with this year's 1st and 2nd class stamps with Redberth, Tenby pictorial robin handstamps. The cover also bears an informative cachet flanked by a pair of images featuring the Nativity and the ever-popular Robin Redbreast.
A superb and highly collectible cover, issued in a strictly numbered limited edition of 100.
